Antique French Directoire Savonnerie Carpet
Circa 18200
Price: $250,000
Dimensions: 25’9”x16’

Special Remarks:

This product is an antique Savonnerie carpet from the early 19th in the Directoire style. One knows can identify this by the use of Roman and earlier Greek classical motifs throughout the pattern, such as palmettes, rosettes, and garland/swag aligned in a strict symmetrical grid broken by geometric medallions. However, the most telling sign is the use Napoleon’s emblem, the pure white swan. Percier and Fontaine’s influence is seen in the coloration and use of the masculine rust ground highlighted with golden motifs with touches of green in smaller elements that hint at the coming Empire style.
