VENETIAN PLASTER AND STRIE TECHNIQUE
Learn painting techniques inspired by a European suite: Venetian plaster, strie, and suede techniques, to add depth and richness to your walls.

Step 1: Apply Venetian Plaster to a Wall
Prep room by taping windows, doors and moldings. Place drop cloth on floor.
Apply base coat of flat latex paint (Image 1).
Add tint to the Venetian plaster.
Use a putty knife to scoop plaster and place in center of the Venetian plaster blade.
Begin applying a thin coat of plaster by sweeping blade from side to side (Image 2). Apply at least two thin coats, adding coats as needed to achieve desired texture. The result is seen up close (Image 3).

Step 2: Apply a Strie Technique
With the Venetian plaster applied to one wall, now it's time to apply a strie effect to the other walls (Image 1).
Prep the room by taping windows, doors and moldings. Place drop cloth on floor.
Apply a base coat of flax latex paint and allow to dry (Image 2).
Add three parts glazing liquid to one part latex paint to create topcoat glaze. Apply topcoat glaze in 2' sections.
Drag a dry brush from top to bottom through wet topcoat to achieve a combed effect (Image 3).
