Chalk Paint

Painting Wooden Floors

Annie Sloan's unique range of decorative paint, Chalk Paint®, is great for painting wooden floors, either as a wash or applied more thickly for a solid colour.

Before applying the paint across a whole floor, we suggest you test the paint and lacquer in a few places as occasionally bleed through can occur (this will look like an orange-brown stain coming through the paint). If this happens, then you must first use one or two coats of shellac (a.k.a. 'knotting solution' or 'French polish') using a cloth or brush before applying the paint.

The picture above shows the three stages -- the original old varnished floor, with part of the floor painted in Old Ochre. The final stage is applying two coats of our Annie Sloan Lacquer over the dry paint.

*Using a sponge roller is the best method for painting and lacquering floors as it is really quick and stops it being too thick.

When you clean the floor, normal cleaning is no problem, but do not use too much water or use bleach in the water.

The paint is not recommended for areas of high water use.
